You’ll find gorgeous\u00a0nature, clean beaches, picturesque villages, two lively shopping cities, good bike paths, cosy restaurants and cafes and many activities.<\/p>\n

Walcheren has the most hours of sunshine in Netherlands and gorgeous wide and clean beaches. Next to the beach there are many bicycle paths that traverse all kinds of charming villages. A bike ride over the island gives a nice view of the highest dunes in the country.<\/p>\n

Walcheren is renowned for its cheerful seaside resorts Domburg, Vlissingen and Westkapelle and the beautiful monumental towns Veere and Middelburg. There is plenty to do see in the various attractions and museums<\/p>\n


\n<\/strong>Villages and cities<\/span><\/h3>\n


\nOostkapelle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oostkapelle is one of the bigger \"Oostkapelle\"villages\u00a0of the municipality of Veere. The beach has been voted the cleanest beach
\nof the Netherlands. The characteristic and child-friendly village is located on the embankment and is surrounded by two beautiful national parks, de Manteling and Oranjezon.<\/p>\n

Oostkapelle offers a unique combination of beautiful wide beaches, a deep strip of sand dunes and forests surrounded by green agricultural landscape. This gives the possibility of special bike rides
\nthrough the beautiful landscape Walcheren<\/p>\n

The cosy village centre with shops and restaurants is just a 10-minute walk from ‘Het Zeeuws Meisje’.<\/p>\n

\"Domburg<\/strong><\/p>\n

Domburg<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mundane and always busy Domburg is located 5 kilometres from Oostkapelle, especially the route via the beach or through the nature reserve De Manteling is a must.<\/p>\n

The town of Domburg is the oldest resort on the Walcheren coast. In the early 20th century many painters\u00a0came to Domburg for inspiration. Piet Mondrian and Jan Toorop are the best known.<\/p>\n

The Centre has many cosy terraces, restaurants and shops which\u00a0are open all year open 7 days a week. The Badpaviljoen is an iconic building on the dunes of Domburg.<\/p>\n

Veere<\/strong>
\nVeere once was a powerful\u00a0\"Luchtfoto<\/a>trade city on the Veerse gat. Veere is now a beautiful town on the Veerse meer. The richly-laden ships from Scotland have been replaced by yachts in ports. The warehouses and old streets, where you can wander around, recall the glory days of this little town. You’ll find lots of authentic shops in Veere, various clothing stores and gift\/souvenir shops. The shops are also open on Sundays in Veere.<\/p>\n

Midde\"Middelburg\"<\/a>lburg<\/strong><\/p>\n

The capital city of Zeeland has a rich past and that is still visible. In the Centre of Middelburg there are still buildings that recall this golden VOC period. In addition to historical monuments there is also modern architecture.<\/p>\n

Middelburg is a city with its own character. There are intimate squares, nice streets, charming shops and next to the shopping chains you will also find special boutiques, art galleries and art dealers.<\/p>\n

Natuurgebieden<\/span><\/h3>\n

Oranjezon
\n<\/strong>A stroll\u00a0through dune area\"Damhert\"<\/a> Oranjezon guarantees a varied walk. Along the canal, by thickets, deciduous forest, coniferous forest, grassland or dunes. Because of this diversity, there are many species of plants and animals. A pleasant surprise is always a sight of a deer or fallow deer.<\/p>\n

In the area are five walking trails. The shortest route is ideal for families, among other things because of the high watchtower you meet.<\/p>\n

De Manteling\"De
\n<\/strong>The Manteling of Walcheren is an 740 ha large nature reserve on the head of Walcheren, between Domburg and the Veerse Gatdam. It consists of old country estates, forests, pieces of dune (directly adjacent to the always audible North Sea), stately avenues and pendulum paths.<\/p>\n

Terra Maris<\/a> is a museum located in the former orangerie of Westhove Castle, which is situated in the nature reserve De Manteling.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
